|figuring out if i really want to buy an expensive camera

getting a good quality cam has been pressing on my mind for several months. i know i'm a compulsive toy-buyer. i'm looking at a pro setup that's over $1k. i have the money, i don't have alot of photography knowledge. maybe it's the bug from my dad since he's been in pro-photography all my life. he did say he'd give me several $k worth of his older gear when i visit home during christmas if i want... i just need to get the main camera bod. hmm.
i'd have fun making artsy pics of the shit i see and want to capture. but to what end. i won't publish them or make money, and i know usually people other than the photographer don't fully appreciate the pics. "oh that's nice. ya sure, i like that." -end of appreciation. so... i think the main reason for getting it would be that i love the quiet simplicity, the captured perspective, the process of looking/finding/creatively-capturing/looking-back.
but as with all my other expensive "enabling" purchases, it's another toy to perpetuate my adhd lifestyle.
