MORE INFO ABOUT "LA CAGE AUX FOLLES":

"La Cage aux Folles" is based on the taboo-shattering French film by
Jean
Poiret and was brought into the pop culture vernacular with the movie
"The
Birdcage" starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. This hilarious romp
tells the story of a gay drag club owner and his flamboyant husband as
they masquerade as heterosexuals in order to fool the conservative
parents
of their son's fiancee.

Highlighted by song and dance numbers from the club's drag queens, the
play brings forth a new understanding of love, tolerance, and the
meaning
of family. This piece, which originally shocked audiences, still has
the
ability to touch the heart and enliven the spirit. Notable songs
include
"I Am What I Am" and "The Best of Times."
